Increasing the Ponorogo community’s capacity in mitigating environmental degradation.

Endang Widayati has been working as a journalist in local media in Ponorogo, East Java Province since 2004. However, her life was completely changed in 2010, when she covered the news about a pest invasion in farms across the Ponorogo Regency which caused huge harvest failure. Concerned with these conditions, Endang Widayati then formed the Farm Hope Women Group in one of Ponorogo’s sub-districts. Endang and her group also attended and integrated the Pest Control School and developed a Refugia or Natural Pest Controller to minimize the attack of brown planthoppers and other pests.

In 2014, Endang collaborated with the Department of Agriculture to promote and develop environmentally friendly agricultural practices to build resilience. In addition, Endang has been working with several villages in East Java, along with the Environmental Service, and Agriculture and Forestry Agency, to carry out reforestation efforts to prevent groundwater issues due to the use of rice field water pumps.
