Empowering health professionals to stand up against climate change for climate health in California

Amanda Millstein, MD, is a pediatrician in Northern California, providing care to over 2,000 patients. Her panel includes a large percentage of medically complicated patients, as well as patients from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Dr. Millstein earned her BA and MD from Stanford University and completed her residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She is the Co-founder of Climate Health Now, which organizes doctors, nurses and medical professionals throughout California to use their trusted health voices to advocate for a rapid, just transition off fossil fuels. She is also a former board member of the American Association of Pediatrics California Chapter One and a co-chair and co-founder of its Task Force on Climate Change and Child Health.

Dr. Millstein’s goal is to prepare doctors, nurses, public health professionals, and health students in California to speak to policy makers, elected officials, and the public about climate change as a health emergency. Climate Health Now members are currently working on these major content areas: advocating for an end to oil and gas drilling in California and a transition to renewable energy; calling for U.S. health insurers to divest from fossil fuels; and pushing elected officials at all levels to take climate action to protect health.
