Teacher at the Green School of Bali
Ida Rahayu has been a teacher at the Green School of Bali since 2012. She is originally from Java, but has been living in Bali for over ten years. In 2016, Ida started learning about Permaculture, and earned a Graduate Certificate of Permaculture Design from Central Queensland University in Australia. This sparked her passion in Permaculture, which she further developed through courses at IDEP Bali and Kul Kul Farm. Ida’s breadth of knowledge in permaculture drove her to develop the program, Seeds to Table. Based in permaculture ethics and principles, Seeds to Table both works to provide education about the health-based and environmental impacts of people's eating habits, and strives to minimize waste by teaching students to grow and cook their own food. Ida has thus far run this program in several local Balinese schools, and hopes to expand to reach as many schools as possible throughout the country.
She has additionally been learning about syntropic farming and agroforestry, and believes in these methods as some of the most effective for food growth. She hopes to embark on future work in creating urban gardens that apply agroforestry principles in local schools.
