Rubama is a women leader based in Aceh. Since 2006, she has been working in grassroots development programs that empower women leaders in villages working to protect the natural resources in Aceh. She trains women how to create handicrafts, grow produce, and upcycle, while also involving children from Nusa Village in the Waste Bank Program. After the Tsunami disaster that occurred in Aceh in 2004, she developed a community based waste management program in her village.
She currently works for Community Based Tourism in Nusa village in the Aceh Besar district. She is also helping to restore a forest in the Bener Meriah district with a grassroots women’s organization that manages forest conservation for ecological justice in Aceh and was the Program Coordinator in Aceh for Women’s Solidarity for Human Rights.
In 2017, Rubama obtained the Perempuan Inspiratif Perintis Kemandirian Desa Award and in 2013 won Indonesian Women Inspiring Women award.
