Developing Ecologically Aware Knowledge and Living Practices Along With a Minimal Waste Program.

Wilma Chrysanti was born and raised in Jakarta. She is one of the founders of LabTanya, a social and ecological design studio which involves residents in research surrounding issues in the sphere of urban life. Wilma also works as the Director of the Zero Waste City Program which was initiated in early 2015.

The Zero Waste City Program presents a new perspective on the problem of waste that continues to accumulate and is increasingly complex to solve. The sub-program Minimal Waste Houses, has facilitated community experiments in 18 hamlets in Jakarta, South Tangerang, and Banjarmasin, and the results reveal that on average, each individual can reduce household waste by 40% – 95%, by implementing the 3 Doors Strategy – the principle of living with minimal waste.

In 2018, Wilma & the LabTanya team initiated the Less Waste Home tour with the Environment Agency of South Tangerang City. In 2020, together with the municipal government of South Tangerang, a pilot neighbourhood program was established in 7 sub-districts of the city, based on the Minimal Waste Houses program.

Since 2019, LabTanya has partnered with the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service in the SAMTAMA (Joint Responsibility Waste) program to create a series of workshops for the provision of 20 sample hamlets in DKI Jakarta. The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service Pasukan Oranye (Orange Troops) will also become collaborators in Jakarta to create an ideal waste management system for hamlets. The program is focused on changing paradigms, and facilitating the joint production of knowledge that is closely relevant to the daily lives of residents. This foundation has an important role in shaping the future culture of urban life.
