For many women across Mexico, leadership unfolds amid ongoing violence and insecurity. Protecting the ocean and natural resources is part of how they strengthen their communities, build resilience, and create pathways forward.

This Women’s History Month, join Women’s Earth Alliance in conversation with women leaders from Sirenas de México who are protecting Mexico’s coastal waters through science, technical training, and collective leadership.

Sirenas de México is a national network of women breaking gender barriers in fisheries and marine conservation — sectors historically dominated by men. As community divers and ocean monitors, they are generating data, strengthening local stewardship, and creating space for more women to lead in protecting marine ecosystems.

During this conversation, Sirenas co-founders Mitzi Leal, Elba Lopéz, and Hañela Ancona, moderated by WEA’s Laura Vigil Escalera Mier, will explore:
