Lian Gogali is the founder and chair of the Mosintuwu Institute, a grassroots community organization based in Poso District, Central Sulawesi. Since 2009, Lian has been actively organizing women in 80 villages through the Women's School and children through the Sophia Library. She also organizes communities in Poso utilizing village reformer schools, which serve as learning spaces between villagers to develop solidarity with nature and prosperity with roots in the village’s natural resources. The schools encourage villages to design sustainable community development plans guided by concepts of mitigation, adaptation, and climate justice.
Lian’s accomplishments include establishing a Women's and Children's Protection House team and establishing a volunteer-run community radio to uplift villagers’ voices. She also initiated the Mosintuwu Festival, a festival rooted in villages in Poso District. A Bachelor of Theology graduate from Duta Wacana Christian University, and Master of Culture Studies at Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta, Lian actively conducts research and writes about socio-cultural and political-economic issues in the Poso Regency and Central Sulawesi. In 2019, she led the Poso Expedition, a biodiversity tracking trip in Poso District alongside geologists, archeologists, biologists, and anthropologists.
Over the next couple of years, Lian plans to cultivate groups of young people and women who are caring for a village without damaging the environment. Over subsequent years she wants to expand this model of prosperity to several other villages as well. She intends to do this in part by helping villages implement at home gardening practices, through knowledge that she gains in the Accelerator.
