Say hello to our spring interns: Hi Samantha!
Name: Samantha Clevenger
Role at WEA: Programs + Operations Intern
Hometown: Pleasanton
Fun Fact: I can’t ride a bike!
Why did you want to intern with WEA?
I currently go to Saint Mary’s College of California and am interested in possibly working for a nonprofit in the future. I am also passionate about the environment so being an intern with WEA is a perfect fit!
What’s your go-to strategy for lessening your environmental/climate footprint?
My strategy primarily consists of always carrying around reusable bags and buying second hand clothes as much as possible. Besides that I also try to car pool places and to recycle/compost.
Tell us about a woman who inspires you.
While there are many women who inspire me, I would have to choose Greta Thunberg. Despite the criticism, difficulties, and her young age, she still is able to be a leading voice in the support of climate change. She is working hard to spread awareness about it so that our planet has a future. She inspires me to speak about what I believe in and to do more to support it.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the Bay Area?
My favorite thing to do in the Bay Area is to go thrifting on Telegraph Street with my friends or to just go anywhere that has good food!
Any community events coming up you’re excited about (bonus points if it’s women-led/organized!)?
I’m looking forward to participating in a beach clean up with one of the clubs at my school, the Green Gaels.
What are you currently reading / watching / listening to?
I am currently reading the first book in the “The Wheel of Time” series by Robert Jordan.
