WEA and Las Cañadas launch the Mexico Grassroots Accelerator 2026: Women and Land. Call for Applications and Nominations Now Open!
Across Mexico, one in two women—particularly rural women—lives in poverty. Among them, only three in ten have access to land ownership, despite being central to food production and territorial stewardship. Women also shoulder the majority of unpaid care and domestic work, with the country's growing water crisis placing an even greater burden on their time and labor.
Yet women across Mexico are overcoming these significant barriers. Together with the collectives they nurture, they are restoring ecosystems, strengthening food sovereignty, and advancing agroecological solutions.
The Mexico Grassroots Accelerator: Women and Land has been launched to support this growing movement.
Designed for teams of two to three women leading collective land projects across Mexico, this two-year Accelerator will bring together women working with agroecological, regenerative, and community-based approaches to deepen their leadership, strengthen their initiatives, and significantly expand the impact of their work through training, mentorship, funding, and connection.
This partnership brings together WEA's global experience supporting women environmental leaders with Las Cañadas' decades of leadership in regenerative agriculture and ecological education. Set within the cloud forests of Huatusco, Veracruz, Las Cañadas offers an inspiring learning environment where women can deepen their knowledge, strengthen their leadership, and develop practical solutions to transform their own territories.
From Learning to Action
This Accelerator is the first of its kind. Throughout the program, each participating collective will co-design and implement a real intervention in its own territory, supported by specialized technical training, mentorship, and financial resources. Throughout the two-year journey, participants will receive specialized agroecological training, ongoing mentorship, peer learning opportunities, seed funding, and access to WEA's Global Alliance.
The Mexico Grassroots Accelerator combines live online learning, asynchronous design work supported by expert mentors, and in-person training at Las Cañadas in the incredible cloud forest of Huatusco, Veracruz. Participants will return to their collectives equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to strengthen regenerative land stewardship, expand agroecological practices, and share what they have learned throughout their communities.

We are excited to welcome the inaugural cohort of women land stewards who are shaping more regenerative, equitable, and resilient futures across Mexico.
Applications are open to teams of two to three women leading collective land projects with agroecological, regenerative, and community-based approaches. Each collective must also receive one nomination from an organization or trusted group familiar with its work.
Applications and nominations close on October 5, 2026, and the Accelerator begins on November 5, 2026.
